Taiwan Tax Facts - The Basics

Taiwan Tax Year

Jan. 1 – Dec.31

Taiwan Tax Rates

6% - 40% - based on earnings (13% avg. for teachers)

Taxing Wages

- 20% is normally taxed from pay for the first 183 days of the tax year.
- The 183 days are calculated by the date you arrive, not from when you get your ARC.
- The counting is cumulative. If you leave country and return, the time before you left and the time after you return is counted towards your 183 days. * It does not include the time you were out of Taiwan.
- After 183 days, rate reduced to income level and the difference is returned when taxes are filed.
- If remain in country for 183 days each successive year, rate will not go back to 20%
- If you stay less than 183 days, you must pay full 20%

*Remember you are taxed according to the tax year, not from when you arrived in Taiwan!
