Description:

Thank you for applying.

JOB Description:

At KOJEN, you will teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in a communicative, student-centered method. Classes are mainly held in the late afternoon and evenings M-F and on Saturdays.

KOJEN English Language Schools are some of the oldest and most well established language schools in Taiwan (established in 1982). We have 21 campuses located all over Taiwan. For teachers wishing to work in a fun and supportive school, KOJEN is a very attractive option. Our curriculum, teacher training and support, and opportunities for advancement are of the very best in all of Asia.

Highlights:

1. CURRICULUM: A fully developed curriculum and teaching library of over 8000 handouts, games and activities created for our schools by our experienced teachers and curriculum department staff.

2. TEACHER SUPPORT: We have teacher trainers on duty every day to assist in lesson planning.

3. WORKSHOPS: Regular workshops for ongoing development.

4. ADVANCEMENT: Potential for advancement to Oral Tester, Teacher Trainer, Academic Assistant, and Academic Director.

5. STANDARDS: All students when enrolling must take a listening, written, and oral placement test. This ensures that all classes have students of the same level, enabling the teacher to focus on specific targets that will be valuable lessons for one's particular class.

6. SMALL CLASS SIZES: In our adult dept. classes are between 8-20 students (average 15), and in the children dept. classes are between 10-25 (average 18) with a teaching assistant. This allows teachers to really get to know their students well.

7. TEACHING METHOD: A fun, student-centered teaching method that involves students in fun and exciting activities that really works to get students communicating and using the language. There is great satisfaction as a teacher in our system because our students do learn quickly and show significant progress.

Salary / Pay:

1. AIRPORT PICK UP: Free-airport pick-up.

2. WORK PERMIT: All KOJEN teachers are sponsored for a legal work permit. Contract signing and application for legal work visa begins one to two days after you arrive. The entire process takes about 4 weeks in total. You will begin teaching your first classes one to two weeks after arrival.

3. MEDICAL: KOJEN will pay for your medical. A health check is a mandated part of applying for the work permit. We'll send a representative with you to the hospital to get this done on the day after you arrive in Taiwan.

4. TRAINING: In your first week, you will undergo light training, observe classes, watch a few training videos, get one-on-one training support from your Academic Director and Teacher Trainers. There will also be workshops during the week that pay NT$200/workshop.

5. INSURANCE: Government sponsored health insurance is provided by KOJEN. It includes all medical visits, prescription medicine, dental visits, cleaning, checkups and cavities, even eye exams. KOJEN pays about NT$2,000 per teacher/month, and teachers are responsible for about NT$482/mo.

6. HOUSING: You will be provided with a one-week free accommodation. KOJEN staff will be happy to point you out to the right direction in finding permanent housing.

7. SALARY: Starting salary is NT$580/hour if you teach adult classes or pre-school classes and NT$590/hour if you teach children's classes. As you gain experience, there are raises of NT$10/hour based on number of teaching hours, surveys, and return rates.

8. PERFORMANCE BONUSES: For classes that teachers are able to bring a strong majority of their students back for additional study, teachers receive recognition for their efforts with return rate bonuses.

9. ANNUAL BONUS: At the completion of each year, an annual bonus of NT$8,000~NT$10,000 is awarded depending on the number of hours taught.

10. VACATION: Teachers are allowed to take a single unpaid vacation of up to 4 weeks' duration during the contract. It cannot be taken in July or August, and not in the first 6 months of employment. In addition, there are also other (unpaid) national holidays (Chinese New Year [about a week], Tomb Sweeping Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, Double 10 Day, and Christmas Day).
