China Tax Facts - The Basics

January 1 – May 31
China - Tax Rates Monthly Salary in Chinese Yuan

500 or less - 5%
500 - 2000 - 15%
5,000 - 20,000 - 20%
20,000 - 40,000 - 25%
40,000 - 60,000 - 30%
60,000 - 80,000 - 35%
80,000 - 100,000 - 40%
100,000 yuan or more - 45%

ENGLISH TEACHERS - If you are teaching at a SAFEA approved school and have a monthly salary of less than 4,800 RMB you will be taxed at 0%. If your income is over 4,800 RMB you will be taxed at 20%.
China - taxpayer classification Any individual who has domicile in China or who has no domicile in China but has resided in China for one year or more shall pay Individual Income Tax on his world-wide income. Any individual who is neither domiciled nor resident in China or who has resided in China for less than one year shall pay Individual Income Tax on the income from sources inside China.
Filing Tax Returns Your employer should pay taxes directly to the Administration of Taxes and will deduct the amount from your salary.Ê
