ESL TEACHING JOBS - APPLYING

Date Added: 01.16.2007
Content: How to apply for ESL teaching jobs

There are several ways to apply for an ESL teaching job.

You can apply online, telephone, in-person or written letter. Most teachers apply online using a combination of ESL job websites, email and telephone. If you are in Asia you have the choice of searching online job ads or newspaper classifieds and applying in-person. It is possible to apply by written letter and mail, however, it is a very slow process and difficult for schools to reply to. When applying for a job you should have a few things prepared. Here is a quick reference list. NOTE: The application procedure of each school could require additional documents.

Reference list:
Resume/ Cover Letter/C.V.
Passport/Passport Copy
Photos (4x6 and passport sized photos)
Degree/Diploma
Certificates (CELTA, TESOL TEFL, TESL, etc.)
References
Reference Letters (usually two)

Applying for a job you saw on esljobproject.com

1st option – At the footer of each job ad you will find a table with several link options. More ads in this category, Ads from this member, Contact Poster, Tell-a-friend, Print. Simply click on contact poster and a contact form will provide you with the means to contact the school or organization that posted the job ad. (see image below) As easy as this is the amount of information you can send through this form is limited. If you would like to send your resume, cover letter, photos etc. we suggest you read option 2 - click here.

2nd Option - Some schools determine the application procedure in the job ad, others do not. If they do, follow it strictly. If they do not specify the application procedure esljobproject.com suggests writing a short introduction about yourself and your objective as the message text and include your C.V. and resume as an attachment. [ tips writing introduction ] [ tips writing resume ] [ tips writing C.V. / cover letter ] You can include your attached files in different file types such as .doc (common Microsoft Word Format), .rtf (Rich Text format), .txt (Plain Text) or if possible as a .pdf (Adobe Acrobat Reader Format – Portable Document Reader). Most people use Microsoft word. Send the files as a .doc file but offer to send the documents in other formats for their convenience. You can also send a photo of reasonable size, 640x480 or smaller, with your resume and C.V.
